01 · Guide
What happens after you send a brief.
Once you send a brief, we reply by email, agree the details with you and send a sample to approve. When you're happy with it, we make the run at the same settings from the first piece to the last, check every piece in our UK workshops and send it with the documents you asked for. We keep your files, so a repeat order is made to the same design.
02 · What do you need from me?
What do you need from me?
Tell us what the piece has to do, where it'll be used and what it has to prove, and say how many you need and when you need them. We follow the same five steps whether it's one prototype or a production run.
Send the geometry you already have, in whatever form you've got it, and we'll agree the format with you. If you haven't got geometry yet, we can model it with you. If you haven't decided some of this yet, just say so and we'll work it out with you.
The same form covers a business briefing a prototype or a production run, a training team asking for a demonstration model, a school ordering classroom pieces, and a shop stocking a range. It asks for your name, your organisation and your email, the kind of work, the quantity and what the piece has to do. The date you need them is optional. Send the brief and we'll reply by email.
03 · What are the five steps?
What are the five steps?
- You tell us what the piece has to do, where it'll be used and what it has to prove.
- We work from your geometry or model it with you. For our own models, we write down every design value with its source.
- We use thicker walls and a denser internal structure wherever the design allows.
- We check each piece before it goes out.
- It arrives with the documents you asked for and instructions for looking after it.
04 · Will I see a sample first?
Will I see a sample first?
Yes. We send you a sample to approve before we make the full run. When you approve it, you're approving the design, and we make the run to match it.
If a piece in the run does not match the approved sample, or is damaged or faulty, we put it right.
05 · How are repeat orders kept the same?
How are repeat orders kept the same?
We keep your files, so a repeat order is made to the same design and we can make the same part again when you need it.
A production run is made at the same settings from the first piece to the last, and we check each piece before it goes out. The Premium range is a wider choice of colours and finishes, made at the same settings and checked the same way before it goes out.
06 · What comes with the parts?
What comes with the parts?
Lab test documentation from the filament manufacturer comes with the parts and the models. There's more on heat, sun and washing in how to look after a PLA piece.
The Certified range has full ingredient transparency and EN 71-3 chemistry evidence for the colours in that pack, so choose it when a buyer, school or venue wants the documents. The Premium range doesn't include ingredient transparency or EN 71-3 evidence. When a school needs the documents, we make the pieces in the Certified range. Our toys are UKCA tested where relevant, with documentary evidence.
For our own training models, we write down every design value with its source. If the brief is for a demonstration model, read what a printed training model can and cannot teach before you send it. It's a training and demonstration model, not a medical device. It's not for clinical use, and it's not a clinical validation.

Can you sign an NDA?
Yes. Clean Layers signs NDAs. Say if you need one when you send the brief.
